Learning Line Reflection

Above is my learning line, it shows the different learning steps throughout my life so far.

I first began learning in Primary School, I learnt how to read, write and do simple mathematics. I then moved onto Secondary School, there I went into more detail of what I had already learnt at Primary School and also picked up new skills, skills such as Science and Technology. Also skills such as team work and independence that helped to increase my confidence.

After completing Secondary School I decided to move onto college to pursue my interest in IT. I began a two year course in BTEC National Diploma in IT at Harlow College. Here I gained more confidence through presentations and meeting new people.

At approximately the same time that I began college I also started a part-time job in Retail. This helped me to earn money which I could use to eventually learn how to drive; this also gave me some financial independence.

During my time at college I started to learn to drive, I felt this was a big achievement for me.

Towards the end of my time at college I decided that I would like to continue my learning process even further by attending a University. I hope the course I have chosen in IT will help me to gain the career I would like in the future.

VARK

In class I did a VARK (Visual, Auditory, Reading, Kinaesthetic) questionnaire to see what my learning style was. It is good to find out your learning style because this can help when trying to study, you will be able to learn in a way that you know you best take information in by.

The questionnaire showed that I learn best by reading. When studying for an exam I best take in the information by reading it and then writing it out over and over. I wasn't surprised when I found that I learn best by reading because during previous exam study I revised by writing out work from my books and by reading through revision books.

The second highest score I got in the questionnaire was for the Kinaesthetic learning style. This means that I also learn well by doing something.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths
Listening/taking in new information - I take in new information fairly quickly.
Managing time well/Organised - I manage my time well and organise tasks according to deadlines to ensure deadlines are met.

Weaknesses
Confidence - I am not confident in all the tasks I do.
Presenting - I find it difficult to do presentations in front of people, I become very nervous.
Essay Writing - I need to improve my essay writing, I don't think it is at a University level.

Opportunities
Gain Degree/Career Opportunities - My course at University will allow me to gain a degree in Business Information Systems, which will open new career opportunities.
New Friends - Going to University allows me to meet new and different people.

Threats
Course Failure - If I don't do work right on the course then I could fail it.
Traveling - If my car fails then I wouldn't be able to attend University.
Computer - If my computer fails then I would find it difficult to complete work.
